Neil Cowley

Neil Cowley (born November 5, 1972 in London ) is a British jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Cowley, the son of a comedian, received classical piano lessons at an early age, very early on with a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music . As a musical prodigy , he gave a concert at Queen Elizabeth Hall at the age of ten. As a teenager he decided against the classical music, played with rock bands through pubs and founded his own band, Mission Impossible . At the age of 18 he belonged to the funk and soul band Pasadenas , then he spent four years with the acid jazz band Brand New Heavies , with whom he also went on tour and recorded. In 1997 he presented his own recordings under the name Diamond Wookey and in the same year became a member of the band Green Nuns of the Revolution .

He also worked with Gabrielle . After a time at Zero 7 , he founded the duo Fragile State with Ben Mynott in 2002 , with whom he recorded two critically acclaimed albums. After he released the album Soundcastles under the name Pretz in 2006 , he founded the Neil Cowley Trio , in which he appears with drummer Evan Jenkins and bassist Rex Horan and has so far released five albums. His debut Displaced won the 2007 BBC Jazz Award for best album.

Cowley was also heard on albums by Adele , the Stereophonics , Birdy , Professor Green and Emeli Sandé .
