biography

Jan Kincaid and Simon Bartholomew have been friends since they were five, and they met Andrew Levy when they were 12. The three school friends founded in 1985 in London , the Brand New Heavies and finally made their mutual love of Soul , Funk and Disco of the 60s and 70s to their hobby. In the beginning they appeared as a pure instrumental combo, and played their first professional gigs at illegal parties in the mid-eighties. However, they quickly made a name for themselves in London in the 1980s , which was characterized by synth pop , and are considered pioneers of acid jazz .

In 1992, at the beginning of the acid jazz hype , the band released the outstanding album Heavy Rhyme Experience, Vol. 1 . In 1994 the Brand New Heavies made their international breakthrough with the singles Midnight at the Oasis and Dream on Dreamer .

In April 2006, the Brand New Heavies collaborated again with N'Dea Davenport and their original label Delicious Vinyl . Her then album Get Used to It was released on June 27, 2006. The album was recorded in New York and London. The single Jump 'n' Move was part of the soundtrack of the computer animation film Happy Feet and used for the soundtrack in the computer game NBA Live 2005 .

On May 31, 2013, the new album Forward! released. N'Dea Davenport and the British newcomer Dawn Joseph take turns on the microphone. As on older albums, the drummer Jan Kincaid is also used as a singer. The album was released on CD, as a download and as a limited edition including a concert recording from 2008 from indigO₂ in London.
