Winston Rollins
Winston Rollins (born February 12, 1966 in Wednesbury ) is a British musician ( trombone , keyboards , bass , arrangement ) of modern jazz , who has also emerged in acid jazz and as a music producer .
Live and act
Rollins, who spent his childhood in Doncaster , learned the trombone from the age of ten and played in the Doncaster Youth Jazz Association , which was led by John Ellis. Later he was part of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra . In London he studied at Trinity College of Music .
Then he worked at Brand New Heavies , Incognito , Aswad and Jamiroquai . He also worked with Courtney Pine , Gail Thompson and the Jazz Jamaica Allstars . Since 1994 he has been a member of Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra , with whom he has recorded numerous albums. He leads his own big band, with which he enjoys interpreting arrangements by Bob Florence and Don Menza .
Rollins also worked as a music producer (for Never Never ) and recorded in their own RedRoom studios . According to Tom Lord , between 1980 and 2011 he was involved in 12 recordings in the field of jazz, for example with Jimmy Scott or Denys Baptiste . He can also be heard on recordings by Amy Winehouse , Ray LaMontagne , Peter Gabriel , Oumou Sangaré , Marc Almond and Jack Bruce .
The jazz musician Dennis Rollins , also a trombonist, is his older brother.
