Denys Baptiste
Denys Baptiste (born September 14, 1969 in London ) is a British jazz musician ( soprano saxophone , tenor saxophone ) of the Modern Creative .
Live and act
Baptiste became known in the 1990s as a member of the bands of Gary Crosby ( Jazz Jamaica Allstars ), Alex Wilson , Guy Barker and Tim Richards ' formation Spirit Level , before he recorded his first album under his own name in 1999, Be Where You Are , the was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and won the MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act 1999.
Baptiste then recorded two more albums; in September 2003 his third album Let Freedom Ring! . In the form of a four-part suite - role models are Charles Mingus and Carla Bley - it incorporates the famous 1965 speech by Martin Luther King . In 2004 it was nominated for the MOBO Award for Best Jazz Event; It also received the 2004 BBC Jazz Awards for Best New Work and Best Album and the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Album 2004.
