Théodore Bachelet

Jean Louis Théodore Bachelet (born January 15, 1820 in Pissy-Pôville , Département Seine-Maritime , † September 26, 1879 in Rouen ) was a French historian.

Live and act

Bachelet completed his schooling at the grammar schools of Rouen and Versailles . There he began his first literary attempts: his debut was the publication of his anthology “Psaumes et cantiques en faux bourdon” in 1837 .

From 1840 Bachelet worked at the École normal supérieure as a lecturer and later he was appointed professor of history at the Collège de Le Havre . In the following years, Bachelet's career led successively to the schools of Chartres , Saint-Quentin , Clermont-Ferrand and Coutances .

Bachelet reached the peak of his career with his appointment as professor at the high school of Rouen and at the same time he taught at the preparatory school for higher education . As such, he was also in charge of the city ​​library .
