Pinillos is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Bolivar in northern Colombia .

Pinillos is located in the south of Bolívar in the sub-region Mojana Bolivarense and has an average temperature of 28 to 29 ° C. The center is located two kilometers from the confluence of the Río Cauca in the Río Magdalena . Pinillos is located on the island of Santa Bárbara . The municipality borders Mompós , San Fernando , Hatillo de Loba and Margarita in the north, Tiquisio and Achí in the south, Altos del Rosario and Barranco de Loba in the east and Magangué in the west .

history

When the Spaniards arrived, the Malibúes , an indigenous people who were completely exterminated during the conquest and colonial times, lived in the area of what is now Pinillos . The first Spanish settlements emerged from around 1714 under the names Guadua Vieja and Las Playas de Pueblo Nuevo . The region received the status of a municipality in 1848 with the main town Pinillos.
