Altos del Rosario is located in Bolívar , 185 km south of Cartagena and has an average temperature of 28 ° C. Altos del Rosario lies at an altitude of 850  m above sea level. NN . history

Altos del Rosario was founded in 1637 by Diego Ortiz Nieto, the then mayor of Mompós . He fought groups of runaway slaves who had established settlements in the area of ​​today's municipality and opened up the area for cattle breeding. The first name of the place was El Pelao . Subsequently, the place experienced increased colonization by further groups of runaway slaves and free workers, as well as poor immigrants from Spain .
