Montecristo is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Bolivar in northern Colombia .

geography

Montecristo is located in the south of Bolívar in the sub-region Mojana Bolivarense about 6 hours from Cartagena and has an average temperature of 28 ° C. The municipality borders in the north Achí and Tiquisio , in the east Santa Rosa del Sur , Morales , Arenal del Sur and Río Viejo , in the south El Bagre in the Department of Antioquia and in the west El Bagre and Nechí in Antioquia and San Jacinto del Cauca .

history

The founding date of Montecristo is 1877, when a family of settlers settled in the area where it is today. Since 1995 Montecristo has the status of a municipality.
