McDonald is a small impact crater on the northwestern front of the moon in the Mare Imbrium plain . It is north of Lambert crater and northwest of Timocharis .

The crater was officially named in 1973 by the IAU after the American banker and benefactor William Johnson McDonald and the Scottish selenographer Thomas Logie MacDonald .
