The medal "For the capture of Budapest" ( Russian Медаль "За взятие Будапешта" ) was a Soviet award during the Second World War in the course of the Battle of Budapest , which led to the conquest of Budapest by the Red Army . It was donated by Josef Stalin in 1945. The award was made to all those members of the Red Army who participated in the liberation of Budapest between December 20, 1944 and February 15, 1945. As of 1995, the medal had been awarded to approximately 362,000 people.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze-colored medal shows on its obverse two open, quarter-circle-shaped and open laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom and curved upwards, and are connected by a hammer and sickle at their lower intersection . In the center is the inscription За взятие Будапешта (For the capture of Budapest), above which a Soviet star can be seen. The reverse bears the three-line inscription: 9 / Февраля / 1945 , (February 9, 1945), the date of the capture of Budapest. A Soviet star is also shown above. The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, the basic color of which is yellow. A steel blue central stripe is woven vertically into this ribbon. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.
