The medal "For the 250th anniversary of Leningrad" ( Russian Медаль "В память 250-летия Ленинграда" ) was an award of the former Soviet Union , which was awarded on May 16, 1957 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the foundation of Leningrad was donated.

Award terms

The medal could be awarded to two groups of people. On the one hand to the defenders of the city of Leningrad in 1942 regardless of where they live, as well as to workers, employees, civil servants, housewives, war invalids and pensioners from all branches of the economy with a minimum residence of 5 years in the city of Leningrad or one of its suburbs. The latter group of people must have made a valuable economic or cultural contribution to the city during this time. The terms of the award were interpreted generously, so that 1,445,900 people received the medal.

Appearance and wearing style

The medal is made of brass , has a golden shimmer and a diameter of 32 mm. On her obverse it shows the portrait of a Lenin monument under a shining Soviet star in front of the Neva River and the outlines of the skyline of the city of Leningrad in the background. The symbolism is enclosed by the above semicircular inscription: В память 250-летия Ленинграда (For the 250th anniversary of Leningrad). The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the medal of the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner on the upper edge of the medal , both of which rest on a structure of plaited ears of wheat and oak leaves. Below is the two-line inscription: ГОРОДУ-ГЕРОЮ СЛАВА! (Glorious Hero City) to read. Below you can see the building of the Smolny Institute and the anniversary number 250 below .

The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a blue pentagonal clasp with a 3 mm wide white border. An 8 mm wide red vertical central stripe is woven into the middle of the ribbon. This is in turn traversed with two yellow 0.5 mm wide threads, of which the inner one is 1 mm from the outer one.
