The medal "For the Defense of Leningrad" ( russian Медаль "За оборону Ленинграда" Medal "Sa oboronu Leningrada" was) a Soviet award , which the defenders of the city of Leningrad during the siege of Leningrad by German and Finnish troops during the Second World War was awarded . The foundation was made by Josef Stalin .

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze medal shows on its obverse the tower of the Admiralty , above which a Soviet star can be seen. A row of people march under the column, the order of which begins with a Red Army soldier when viewed from the front, followed by a marine, a worker and a peasant woman, who stride west with bayonets on . The representation is enclosed by the inscription: За оборону Ленинграда (For the defense of Leningrad). The reverse shows the three-line inscription: За нашу / советскую / родину (For our Soviet homeland). Above it are the hammer and sickle symbols .

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal, fabric-covered clasp, the base color of which is light green with a vertical green central stripe. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.
