The medal for the 20th anniversary of the liberation of the fatherland ( Romanian A XX-a aniversare a eliberării patriei ) was a state award of the Socialist Republic of Romania . The foundation took place on August 19, 1964 by decree 504 of the Council of State ( Consiliul de stat ). The publication of the statutes was announced in the Romanian State Gazette ( Buletinul oficial ) No. 15. The medal was awarded as a visible anniversary badge on the occasion of the 20th return of the social, national and anti-fascist liberation revolution. To those who had made a special contribution to building socialism in Romania.

Appearance and wearing style

The single-class bronze medal is oval and shows the Roman numerals XX on a radiant background and the inscription 23 August underneath. The lower part of the medal is defined by two laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom and bent upwards. The reverse of the medal is like the obverse and shows the inscription A XX-A ANIVERSARE / A ELIBERARII / PATRIEI / 1944-1964 under a shining sun .

The medal was worn on the left chest of the borrower on a 24 mm wide pentagonal clasp on the white watered ribbon. A 5 mm wide red central stripe is woven into the ribbon. The hem consists of a 1 mm pewter-yellow-dark blue side stripe on both sides; total 3 mm each.
