The Mediapulse Corporation for Media Research is a subsidiary of Media Pulse Foundation for Media Research and sits as an independent research institution to the legal mandate to collect the official Swiss audience ratings for radio and television. The audience ratings are used by both the advertising industry and program creators to determine and compare the performance of programs, broadcasts or advertisements.

activity

Audience research is intended to capture the audience and their needs and thus enable a bridge to be built between the recipients and the media.

For this purpose, Mediapulse operates two research panels in which the consumption of the respective medium is measured. The participants in these samples are selected to be representative of the Swiss population and allow a statement to be made about usage behavior in Switzerland by means of extrapolation and weighting . Media consumption is measured with technical measuring devices.

history

In 1968, the AG for commercial television (later: publisuisse , today: Admeira ) began with SRG SSR's participation with continuous television research. In 1974, viewer research moved to the SRG General Directorate and was henceforth called SRG Research Service. From 1975 radio research was expanded into systematic and continuous listener research using telephone surveys. At the beginning of 1985 Telecontrol was introduced as an electronic TV viewer measurement system. In 2000, the SRG Research Service initiated an internet research project (in 2006 the establishment of the new internet research by the independent NET-Metrix began ). After an extensive development phase with several Swiss companies, an automated procedure called Radiocontrol was introduced in 2001 for radio audience research. In mid-2006, SRG SSR outsourced its research service to a subsidiary called Mediapulse AG for media research. In the course of the entry into force of the new federal law on radio and television (RTVG), the Mediapulse Foundation for Media Research was founded on April 24, 2007 . As an independent body, it ensures that radio and television consumption is measured in Switzerland. It took over all shares in Mediapulse AG from SRG. In 2008, the Foundation also acquired 100% of the marketing organization Publica Data from SRG. In autumn 2014, Mediapulse AG and Publica Data AG were merged. Since then, all radio and television research has been united under the name Mediapulse.

organization

The Board of Directors of Mediapulse AG consists of seven members of the Board of Directors, two representatives each from the three interest groups SRG SSR, private TV and radio broadcasters and the advertising industry, and one independent person. The Chairman of the Board of Directors is the President of the Mediapulse Foundation, Peter Urs Naef.

Mediapulse AG uses various control processes to ensure the quality of the data collected. In addition, a media studies commission checks the quality of the research methods used and their results. The Media Studies Commission consists of Heinz Bonfadelli , Walter Hättenschwiler and Michael Schenk .
