The media for curriculum and educational standards - MedienLB GmbH is the largest private manufacturer of self-produced films for use in schools in the German-speaking countries, she received several times the Comenius EduMedia Award , including the Comenius EduMedia Medal.

history

In 2006, the MedienLB, based in Starnberg near Munich, was founded by Anita Stangl . The purpose of the company is to produce multimedia educational films that should be fun for the students, can be used without technical hurdles and are suitable for bilingual teaching. From 2007 the films appeared in three languages: English, Turkish and German.

Each DVD contains a PC-ROM section with worksheets, test tasks, supplementary materials, animations and graphics, narration texts and curriculum analyzes. In 2008 interactive worksheets for whiteboards will be introduced and the audiovisual media will be aligned with educational standards.

In cooperation with Medien LB, the GDA created two instructional DVDs on the subject of aluminum. The presentation was at didacta in Cologne in March 2010.

The DVD "Georg Elser comes to schools on DVD", released in 2013, is intended to bring the Königsbronn resistance fighter closer to school children in Germany in a multimedia and interactive way. The teaching material is trilingual, the soundtracks are German, English and Turkish.

In addition, MedienLB became a project partner of the ZPG Bayern (Bavarian Center for Prevention and Health Promotion). The educational film "Movement in the Primary School" ("Moving Classroom - Movement Pauses", developed with the support of the BKK) was made. The DVD shows corresponding exercises. Another joint project is the film for young people under the title "Drinking and driving - you have no chance". Developed together with the ADAC and under the patronage of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, it is also used by driving schools in Bavaria. This was followed by two DVDs on the subject of “Healthy nutrition - stay healthy and fit” for primary and secondary schools.

The film »You have no chance ... drink driving« was part of the program at the annual congress »German Prevention Day« on April 23, 2013 in Hanover.

The teaching media library went online in 2014. 54,886 teaching elements, 438 didactic DVDs, 20,508 film sequences, 8,206 worksheets and 26,172 images and graphics are currently available there.

The DVD "Mobile Learning II - Active Media Work with iPads" was released in September. The DVD deals with productive work with iPads in grades 1 to 4 of the Dionysius School in Essen. The iBook »Children Have Rights«, which was completed in November, is a cooperation with UNICEF. The film introduces the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and shows which rights have been adopted for children. “Children have rights” receives the highest award, the Erasmus EuroMedia Medal of Excellence for its quality and educational value.

In 2015 MedienLB brought out the RTL II series "Time for Heroes - And what are YOU doing?" With educational material for use in schools. The series aims to raise awareness of the issues of discrimination, racism, prejudice and moral courage. The Bavarian Association of Economic Philologists, the Ifo Institute and MedienLB agreed on the joint production of an educational film on the topic of "Business Cycle". MedienLB became a member of both the Alliance for Education (BFB) and the interest group of private producers of audiovisual teaching media (IPAU) and a sponsoring member of the Association of German History Teachers (VGD).

MedienLB has been working on a digital school book since 2015. Project manager Bernd Brockhaus creates digiBook with an editorial and IT team. Approvals have been applied for for the first fully digital schoolbooks in biology. The aim of the Digibook is to provide a digital textbook for all subjects in grades 1 to 13 for all types of school.

In order to advance diabetes education among children and adolescents between 10 and 18 years of age, the German Diabetes Foundation (DDS) carried out a new school film project together with MedienLB in 2016. The educational film "Metabolic Disease Diabetes" was shot under the direction of the Diabetes Department of TSM Video Heidelberg in cooperation with MedienLB Starnberg at the Heidelberg St. Josef Hospital. The production "Metabolic Disease Diabetes" was awarded the "Intermedia Globe Gold" at the WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg.

A project with the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg also came to an end in 2016. The project assignment to the course team was the creation of a script on the subject of »Big Data« for 8th to 10th grade students.

MedienLB films have been integrated into the nationwide school cloud since 2017.

School films and teaching materials

Around 60 new educational films are produced every year for use in school lessons. These are produced in HDTV quality according to the applicable curricula and lesson content and made available as DVDs to the state media centers for lending to teachers for use in school lessons.

Developed by educational editors, the films are sequenced in learning units and run between 15 and 35 minutes. Subtitles serve to promote reading skills and their multilingualism should make a contribution to school integration. Produced with several audio tracks, in German, English, Turkish, but also Latin, French, Slovenian or Italian, they are geared towards bilingual teaching .

Each DVD has a PC-ROM part with accompanying didactic material. This includes series of images, graphics, animations for illustration as well as learning games, test tasks with solutions and interactive worksheets for deepening the respective subject. A glossary explains the technical terms, links and notes provide further information on the topic.

The films can be used on interactive whiteboards in school lessons and mobile devices.

Interactive workbooks

MedienLB has been producing interactive workbooks based on H5P since 2019. With the collection of 50 interactive tasks included, teachers can digitally enrich their lessons. These collections of exercises were already awarded the Comenius seal in 2019 and have received several teaching recommendations from the Baden-Württemberg State Media Center.

Awards

MedienLB is the winner of the Erasmus Euro Media Award 2011 and 2013 and the winner of the Medal of Excellence in 2014. As well as the winner of the Comenius EduMedia Award 2014 for ICT-based educational media with excellent pedagogy, content and design in the field of teaching and learning management systems. In 2015 MedienLB received six Comenius Awards, including the Comenius EduMedia Medal.

In 2016 the production “Metabolic Disease Diabetes” was awarded the international intermedia-globe Gold award at the World Media Festival.

Also in 2016, the media company received seven awards for audiovisual media and one award for TOM Medien in Berlin.

In 2017, 9 Comenius seals and 2 Comenius medals were awarded to MedienLB in Berlin.

In 2018, 5 Comenius seals were awarded in Berlin.

In 2019 MedienLB received a Comenius Medal and 2 Comenius seals in Berlin.
