Meefischli (also Mainfischchen ) are small fried fish from the Main and a Main Franconian specialty. Traditionally, the fish shouldn't be bigger than the little finger of the statue of Saint Kilian on the Würzburg Main Bridge. The fish are prepared freshly caught and eaten whole without any side dishes without cutlery. It can mainly be blanks (arbors), but also roaches or rudds . The increase in predatory fish as a result of the improved water quality, but also the increase in herons and cormorants in the Würzburg area have recently led to a decrease in these fish, which has led to an increase in prices.

The name Meefischli is derived from the name of the Main in and around Würzburg, which is called “Mee” in the dialect there.
