Mega lo mania

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mega lo Mania , in North America Tyrants: Fight Through Time , is a computer game released in 1991 by the Sensible Software developer . The player takes on the role of one of four gods, each of which rules over a people. Different islands have to be colonized, resources extracted and the military technology of the people developed. The aim is to destroy the opposing peoples.

Gameplay

Mega lo Mania is a real-time strategy game that appeared before the genre-defining Dune 2 and is unique in terms of gameplay. It is reminiscent of the god simulation Populous (1989), but in Mega lo Mania the player interacts directly with his people.

The playing field is an island that is divided into two to 16 sectors. The player and up to three computer-controlled opponents select the number of people to settle on an island and a starting sector from a fixed pool of people. The sectors differ in the type and number of resources and represent a crucial strategic element.

From the number of people available, the player divides his characters either into developing military defensive and offensive weapons, reducing the resources available in the sector, producing weapons or into combat troops. The speed of development and production depends on the number of characters allocated. Combat troops can be sent to other sectors, where they destroy enemy buildings and troops and then work on the construction of a new settlement building. The number of people is the most important resource, with characters that are not divided up gradually increasing.

The level of development of the people in a sector is displayed as a year, and the appearance of the buildings changes. Depending on the level of development and resources in a sector, new developments are available. Finished designs can be discarded and redeveloped to suit the resources currently available in the sector. There are a total of ten different stages of development from 9500 BC. Until 2001 with weapons typical for the epoch. The epoch does not change time-controlled, but exclusively depending on the current state of development. Two sectors can therefore be in different epochs.

Technical implementation

The game was developed by Sensible Software . It was published by several publishers for various platforms from 1991 to 1993, for example for Amiga on two floppy disks, as well as for Atari ST , Mega Drive , MS-DOS and SNES .

The high-quality voice output, which was also dubbed in German, was groundbreaking at the time.
