particularities Late Minoan hilltop settlement

Megali Koprana ( Greek Μεγάλη Κοπράνα = Great Koprana ) is a 1148 m high elevation of the Selena Mountains . The mountain slopes relatively flat on all sides. About 400 m to the north lie the two mountains Karfi and Mikri Koprana , between which the ruins of the late Minoan hill settlement Karphi were found. Remains of buildings from the late Minoan period were also found in the depression between Mikri and Megali Koprana and on Megali Koprana.

The Vitsilovrisis spring ( Greek Βιτσιλόβρυση = vulture spring ) is located to the west of the summit, about 300 m away . 17 Late Minoan Tholos graves were found here . About 250 m east of the Astividero spring ( Greek Πηγή Αστιβιδερό = impassable spring ) were found 4 more Tholos graves .

The name Koprana means excrement and is supposed to indicate that herds of sheep and goats were previously kept here and that their legacies were therefore discovered.
