Megalocnus is an extinct sloth from the superfamily of the Megalocnoidea . The genus livedon the Caribbean islandsduring the Pleistocene and Holocene and only became extinct about 6000 years ago. The largest species Megalocnus rodens from Cuba was also the largest Caribbean ground sloth and probably reached a body weight of around 200 kg. The last finds of this kind are dated to an age of about 6000 radiocarbon years . Another species of the genus is Megalocnus zile from the Quaternary of Hispaniola .
