Rohard the Elder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rohard , called the Elder (* before 1120; † after 1152), was the vice count and castellan of Jerusalem .

Historians gave him the nickname of the elder to distinguish it from the eponymous vice count and castellan of Jerusalem, who was documented from 1163 and is called Rohard the Younger .

He is first documented in 1135, the last time in 1152 as the holder of the office. His official seat was the Citadel called the Tower of David on the western edge of the old city of Jerusalem .

He was married to a woman named Hilla in 1141 at the latest. With her he had a daughter:

  • Stephanie (1175 documented), ∞ Baldwin, lord of Saint-Gilles

He had a nephew named Raoul Strabo. Perhaps the aforementioned Rohard the Younger was another nephew.
