Mehdi Golshani

Mehdi Golshani (* 1939 in Isfahan ) is an Iranian theoretical physicist.

Golshani studied physics at the University of Tehran with a bachelor's degree in 1960 and received his doctorate in 1969 from the University of California, Berkeley (Electron impact excitation of heavily ionized atoms). He was then a professor at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, where he was Vice Chancellor from 1978 to 1980 and headed the physics faculty from 1973 to 1975 and from 1987 to 1989. From 1994 he headed the Philosophy of Science department and from 1993 was director of the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies.

Since 1990 he has been a member of the Iranian Academy of Sciences. In 2002 he became a Fellow of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences. He is a founding member of the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM). He is also a Senior Associate of the ICTP in Trieste.

He deals with the relationship between religion and science and was also active in the Templeton Foundation (and one of the jurors of the Templeton Prize ) in this context .

He is a member of the Supreme Council for the Cultural Revolution in Iran.
