Meidericher TTC

The Meidericher TTC 47 eV is a table tennis club from the Duisburg district of Meiderich . In the 1970s it was one of the strongest men's teams in Germany.

The association was founded on March 1st, 1947 under the name Meidricher TTC "Lösort" . On August 1, 1949, it changed its name to Meidericher TTC 47 . There were problems in the 1953/54 season when the club in Duisburg could not find a suitable venue due to the consequences of the war. Therefore, all games were played away. In 1962 they moved into their own club house, which is located near the Meiderich stadium. From 1949 to 1953 the club rose several times, from the 2nd district class to the regional league, at that time the second highest regional class.

Under the direction of Karl-Heinz Hasenbrink († 2014), the club achieved its greatest successes in the 1970s. Already in the 1966/67 season the men's team (Wilfried Poll, Peter Büssen, Claus Scholz, Heinz Arno Jäger, Karlheinz Gresch, Heiner Bierhoff) rose to the Oberliga West. In 1970 she reached the final of the ETTU Cup , in which she lost to GSTK Vjesnik Zagreb. In the 1971/72 season, the team around Richard Fritz , Hanno Deutz and Peter Engel won the German Cup. From 1970/71 to 1974/75 it took second place in the Bundesliga five times in a row .

In 1976 the club separated from Richard Fritz prematurely because of his repeated unsporting behavior. A little later, the club voluntarily withdrew the team from the Bundesliga to the regional league, as the executive chairman Karl-Heinz Hasenbrink left.
