Meidlinger Hofküche water pipe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Meidlinger Hofküche water pipe was a Viennese water pipe that was originally built to supply the Schönbrunn Palace with water. Later it passed into the possession of Untermeidling .

history

The Meidlinger Hofküche water pipe was first mentioned in a document in 1811. It originated in the Eichenstrasse / Längenfeldgasse area in the 12th Viennese district of Meidling .

The water from the abundant spring was collected in a reservoir and piped to Schönbrunn.

After the Hofärar abandoned this water pipe in 1874, it was acquired by the Untermeidling community and repaired. The drinking water was used to feed an outlet well in today's Bendlgasse. Around 1876 the court kitchen water pipe was expanded so that it could now supply three outlet wells - two in Albrechtsbergergasse and one in Krichbaumgasse. The fountain in Bendlgasse, however, was left open.

The former court kitchen water pipe was finally shut down in 1906.
