My system

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My system is a chess textbook by Aron Nimzowitsch . It was originally published in 1925 and 1926 in five partial deliveries each as a brochure and then in book form in 1927. The work is one of the early works on hypermodern chess and introduced numerous then new concepts. Many chess masters of the past century described the examination of the work as an important milestone in their own development.

content

The book is divided into three parts: The Elements , The Position Game and the Addendum - On the History of the Chess Revolution 1911–1914 .

The Elements

In The Elements , Nimzowitsch writes about the basics of his “system”. He considers the elements of chess strategy :

  1. Center and development
  2. The open tower line
  3. The 7th and 8th rows
  4. The passed pawn
  5. The exchange
  6. The elements of the endgame strategy
  7. The bound stone
  8. The trigger chess
  9. The peasant chain

Positional play

The next part, The Position Game , is mainly based on the previous part of the book and contains the following 5 chapters:

  1. Prophylaxis and center
  2. Double pawn and escapement
  3. The isolated female pawn and his descendants
  4. How to systematically cover up strong points and how to try to get rid of weak pawns or points
  5. The waving against an enemy "weakness". The combined attack on both wings

Addendum - On the history of the chess revolution 1911–1914

In this part Nimzowitsch deals with:

  1. The general state of affairs before 1911
  2. The revolutionary theses
  3. The revolutionary theory is translated into revolutionary practice. The regular game of the ideal Queen's Gambit
  4. More historical battles
  5. Expansion and development of the chess revolution from 1914 to 1926

The book contains numerous games and game fragments, which Nimzowitsch annotates in detail. In some later editions, the selection of the game examples was partially adapted by the respective editors to the current state of chess theory.
