Meinhard I. (date of birth not verifiable; † 1142 ) from the Meinhardiner family was Vogt of Aquileja and Count (as Count of Görz only mentioned in a document in the year of his death).

ancestry

According to Dopsch / Meyer, the father was Count Meginhard (III) from the upper Lurngau around Lienz. A document from the Patriarchate of Aquileia from around 1120/1121 proves that Count Palatine Engelbert I (of Bavaria, † December 13/15 from 1122/23) was his brother.

Due to the large age difference of 15/20 years, it is assumed that the two have different mothers who are not mentioned in the sources.

Life

Meinhard appears for the first time in 1120/21 in the document mentioned under note 2 of the Patriarchate of Aquileia, of which he was bailiff. Since he is self-employed around 1120, he must be at least 14 years old and born in 1106 or earlier at the latest. The document quoted by Wiesflecker for June 1117 is very likely a forgery. The brothers Meinhard I and Engelbert I are involved in an undated donation from the Patriarch Ulrich von Aquileia to a St. John's Church, presumed to have been around 1120 . In 1139 there were complaints from villages of the patriarchate about unjust and ruthless tax collectors of Vogtes Meinhard. In January 1142 Meinhard was a witness for King Konrad III in Regensburg . In 1142 (approx.) Meginhardus comes de Gorza hands over three vineyards for the monastery of St. Peter in Salzburg. This is his last mention, according to the necrology of Aquileia and Millstadt, he died on September 14th.

family

Meinhard's wife was Elissa, a daughter of Count Poto von Schwarzenburg in Bavaria and his wife Petrissa. Elissa is named as Countess of Gorizia in a document from Bishop Reginmar of Passau that has been handed down to us around 1130. She was born no later than 1103/1104 and is mentioned for the last time around 1155/1157. The assignment of these Schwarzenburgs is uncertain, as there is no further source available neither from Elissa's parents nor from the brothers named in the partly falsified document tradition. Elissa alone is occupied again later.

Four of the couple's children are mentioned in the sources:

Count Engelbert II. Von Görz, Vogt von Millstatt (first mentioned in 1132 as Count von Eberstein, † January 13/16 approx. 1189) ..

Count Heinrich I (Gorizia) , (first mentioned 1139, † October 10/11, 1148/1149).

Beatrix, nun in the monastery of S. Maria in Aquileia, (named [1146 - 1161 Aug. 9], † 11 Dec. after [1146 - 1161 after Aug. 9]).

Daughter NN (* latest 1127/28, mentioned approx. 1155/1157) ∞ Edlen Otto II. Von Lengenbach / Rehberg (1120, † May 16 from 1161).
