Meinhard Uttecht

Meinhard Uttecht (born June 10, 1919 in Emden , East Friesland ; † June 6, 1991 there ) was a German painter . He was best known for his pictures with views from the East Frisian area as well as portraits and still lifes.

Meinhard Uttecht drew landscapes of his homeland during his school days. He was supported by the teacher and painter Jaques Roskamp and was able to sell his first pictures at the age of 16. After school he did an apprenticeship as a painter and after completing his apprenticeship worked as a decorative painter in Köthen and Dessau. On the side, Uttecht attended the private art school of Professors Stich and Jacobsen.

During the Second World War, Uttecht served as a soldier and in 1945 met Professor Stich again in Lofoten . In the post-war period Uttecht worked for the Nordseewerke - initially as a font painter, later in accounting. In 1972 he started his own business in Emden as a painter and in 1983 was one of the founders and teachers of the painting school of the Emden Kunsthalle .

Between 1973 and 1985, the painter had more than 21 solo exhibitions and 16 group exhibitions in East Frisia, the Netherlands and Great Britain. His pictures were often printed in calendars and newspapers in the East Frisian region. In 1993 the city of Emden named a street in the Wolthusen district after Uttecht.

Uttecht had been married to Sophie Meyer from Emden since 1948. They both had a daughter and a son together.
