Meirath is a desert northeast of Lorscheid in the district of Trier-Saarburg , Rhineland-Palatinate . The place "Auf dem Graben" (field name "Auf Maat") is about 475 meters above sea level.

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1276 from the document book of the bailiffs of Hunolstein .

According to the Trier fire book of 1563 , there were 6 fireplaces (households) in Meirath. In 1684 there were only fireplaces in Lorscheid and Wellscheid near Lorscheid, by which time Meirath had become a desert .

On a map of the Archdiocese of Trier from 1645, the place is still listed as Meyert .

In the year 1818 the desert is only shown as Mayrather Fluhr in the topographical survey of the Rhineland next to the village of Lorscheid .

In 2007 a large wooden cross was erected and consecrated as a souvenir.
