The medieval illuminator who is unknown by name and who worked with his workshop in France - probably in Paris - from around 1400 to 1415 is referred to as the master of the Cité des Dames .

Naming

The master of the Cité des Dames illustrated several manuscripts of the City of Women (fr. Cité des Dames ). The master himself painted several copies of this allegorical work written by Christine de Pizan in Paris on behalf of the author. After these miniatures he got his emergency name .

The master of the Cité des Dames was apparently specialized and known for the painting of literary and historical works outside the ecclesiastical area; Christine de Pizan commissioned him again and again and the master created z. B. Pictures for a history mirror (fr. Miroir Historial) of Vincent von Beauvais .

style

Typical for the master of the Cité des Dames and his workshop are spatially designed pictures with people with similar and identical white faces; the master's style is close to that of the Bedford master , and he may have collaborated with the Mazarine master on some of his works .
