Master Carrying the Worcester Cross

As a master of Worcester Cross ( English Master of the Worcester Carrying of the Cross ), a painter of unknown identity which is Gothic called the 1420 or 1430 in the Bavarian worked region. His style suggests that he was also active as an illuminator . He may have been a student of the master of the St. Lambrecht votive tablet , who had a workshop in Vienna.

Naming, style and meaning

The master of the Worcester Carrying the Cross got his emergency name from his panel painting of Christ Carrying the Cross , which was in the Worcester Collection until 1956 and is now in the Chicago Art Institute.

The master of the Worcester Carrying the Cross can be seen as a pioneer of artistic renewal, especially since his style is cited by many other subsequent paintings by other masters.
