Master of the Corsi Crucifix

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Italian painter who probably worked in Florence at the beginning of the 14th century is known as the master of the Corsi crucifix . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after the painted crucifix he created and which was in the Corsi collection in Florence. It is still privately owned today. The work of art from the Italian Early Renaissance is 152 cm high and 128 cm wide.

Stylistic influences

The work of the master of the Corsi crucifix shows the same style-innovating influence as seen in the triumphal cross in the Capella Tornabuoni of the Santa Maria Novella church in Florence, a work that can be considered Giotto's early work . The master may have belonged to the circle of Taddeo Gaddi , the Florentine painter who was also influenced by Giotto. Her works show the development of a new formal language in Italy from directions previously determined by Byzantine painting.
