As Master of the Harvard Hannibal ( Engl. Master of the Harvard Hannibal ), a medieval designated book artist who from 1415 to 1440 of about in France , probably first in Paris , worked. The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name from a single picture in a manuscript depicting Hannibal 's coronation . The image is contained in this copy of a French translation of a work by Livy , now in the possession of Harvard University . The copy is a volume of a two-volume work, the complete coloring of which is attributed to the Boucicaut master and the Bedford master .

The master of Harvard Hannibal, to whom a few pictures in other works are assigned, is stylistically very close to the Boucicaut master . The influence of the Limburg Brothers can also be felt in his work and may have been conveyed through the painter of the Spitz Book of Hours, one of the few real Parisian successors of the Brothers.

In addition to the eponymous picture, contributions to the following works are attributed to the master of Harvard Hannibal :

The master of Harvard Hannibal worked together with the Spitz master and master of Guy de Laval in the book of hours, which is now called “Spitz Hours” after a modern owner and which is stylistically similar to the work of the Limburg brothers . The master of Harvard Hannibal only contributed two miniatures, namely the visitation to the lauds of the Marienoffizium and probably also the offering to the Non, which was prepared by the Spitz master and in some cases also painted.
