Wladimir Filippowitsch Wassiljew ( Russian Владимир Филиппович Васильев , born August 26, 1940 in Kimry , Kalinin Oblast , Russian SFSR , † August 8, 2012 in Moscow ) was a Russian ice hockey player who worked as a coach after his career ended .
Career
Vladimir Vasilyev began his career in 1957 with Chimik Voskressensk , where he played until 1960. During his military service he played for CSKA Moscow and SKA Kalinin . He was in 1961 with the CSKA Soviet champion and cup winner . For the 1963/64 season he returned to his home club before he was active for Krylya Sowetow Moscow from 1964 to 1973 . In 1973 Vasilyev received permission to move abroad and played for the EC KAC for the next two years before retiring.
In total, he scored 200 goals in 415 Class A games during his career .
He began his coaching career in 1978 with SK Imeni Urizkogo from the Pervaya League . Between 1982 and 1992 Vasilyev was the head coach of his home club Chimik Voskressensk and was with this 1989 Soviet runner-up. At the same time, he was in charge of the Soviet U20 national team in the mid-1980s and became world champion with them at the 1986 U20 World Cup. At the tournament a year later , the U20 selection was disqualified due to a mass brawl against the U20 team of Hockey Canada .
In 1992, the Cologne-based EC signed Wassiljew as a full-time trainer. With the KEC he reached the playoff final at the end of the 1992/93 season . In the middle of the 1994/95 season he was dismissed by the management of the team, which had since been renamed Kölner Haie . After this success, Vasilyev left Germany again and was appointed national coach of the Russian ice hockey team. With this he reached fourth place at the 1996 men's ice hockey world championship . After that, his contract was not extended. During the 1996/97 season he replaced Jan Eysselt as coach of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , but was replaced by Peter Ihnačák himself in the course of the following season . He then returned to Russia and between 1998 and 2001 took over again as a coach at Chimik.
In the 2002/03 season Vasilyev was temporarily in charge of HK Metschel Tscheljabinsk . At the beginning of the 2003/04 season he was the head coach of HK Voronezh , but only stayed with this club until the beginning of October.
