The so-called Master of Dunois (or Dunois Master ) was a French illuminator who worked in Paris from around 1430 . Since his name remains unknown, he is named with an emergency name after the book of hours he illustrated for Count Jean d'Orléans, comte de Dunois .

Art style

The master of Dunoi is a representative of the realistic style of Gothic book illumination in France. It emerged from the Bedford master's workshop in Paris. He adopted their style and further developed it, influenced by the work of the Limburg brothers, such as the miniatures for Très Riches Heures . The master is also influenced by the work of the Dutch painter Jan van Eyck , e.g. B. his Madonna of Rolin .
