As Master of St. Lawrence one is Gothic painter called that in the period from 1415 to 1430 in Cologne worked.

A fragment of the altar of the former church of St. Laurence was assigned to him; he also made a picture of Mary in the Garden of Paradise , which he took up as a popular motif of his time.

Naming

The artist, who is not known by name, was given his emergency name after the work he painted, which comes from an altar in the St. Laurenz parish church in Cologne.

style

The master of St. Laurenz worked in Cologne shortly before Stefan Lochner , in the "heyday" of the so-called Cologne School of Painting . His elegant style of design and the typical colors with their yellow and pink mixtures seem to be a characteristic of his work.
