The Melakwa Lake is a lake in King County in the State of Washington . The name "Melakwa" comes from the Chinook word for "mosquito". The Pratt River flows through it just below its actual source in Upper Melakwa Lake.
Access
Access is via Interstate 90 and from there via the entry point of the Denny Creek Trail. The trail leads from Denny Creek to Melakwa Lake in a full day hike.
features
The lake lies in a narrow valley bounded by Chair Peak to the east and Kaleetan Peak to the west, and is usually accessible from late June. It is known for its clear water and beautiful blue-green color. A short climb over a scree slope at the northern end of the lake leads to Melakwa Pass, from where views of Gem Lake, Glacier Peak and the Northern Cascade Range are possible on a clear day .
