The Pratt River is a river in King County , Washington state . It is a tributary of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River . It was named after prospector George A. Pratt, who discovered nearby iron ore deposits in 1887.
The river has its origin in the tiny Upper Melakwa Lake . It starts as a small stream near the lake drain. The river soon flows into the larger and better known Melakwa Lake . After leaving Melakwa Lake, it falls over a steep slope and turns north below the falls. The river flows generally northward to its confluence with the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River .
