The Melbourne Aquarium

The Melbourne Aquarium is an aquarium in the center of Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria , which was built in 1999. The operator is Merlin Entertainments (Australia) Pty Ltd.

The aquarium is particularly known for the sharks on display . In addition to the many different species of marine life, a large collection of Australian jellyfish is exhibited in their natural habitat. In addition to a tide pool, there are also regular short-term exhibitions of all kinds to see. The Melbourne Aquarium is on the banks of the Yarra River , but the river is not part of the aquarium's exhibition area.

At the beginning of the opening, the ventilation system did not work properly, with 60 visitors falling ill with legionnaires and two of them dying, so that the number of visitors initially decreased.

At Perth in the state of Western Australia is the largest aquarium in Australia, the AQWA .
