The Melchiorbrunnen is a karst spring in Hainich near Mühlhausen in Thuringia .

description

Site plan and cross-section of the Melchior fountain

The Melchiorbrunnen is located in the Vogtei municipality west of Oberdorla in the immediate vicinity of the Kainspring . The spring, surrounded by trees, is only about half as wide at 17 meters but at 23.5 meters almost twice as deep as the Kainspring. The Melchior fountain pours out 20 liters per second. The bottom of the spring consists of meter-high lime mud through which the karst water pushes itself and makes it simmer. At the bottom there are small branches of the surrounding trees, which are enormously encrusted with lime . After a few meters, the flowing stream flows into the Wilder Graben , which flows into the Unstrut via the Seebach .
