The Meltausjoki is an important left tributary of the Ounasjoki in Finnish Lapland .

It has its origin in Lake Unari . From there it flows mainly in a south-westerly direction. Its upper course is called Unarinköngäs . After 46 km it reaches the Ounasjoki , a right tributary of the Kemijoki . The catchment area covers 1787 km². The source rivers Moulusjoki and Ulingasjoki feed the Unari.
