Memnon (strategist)
Memnon ( Greek Μέμνων ; died after 326 BC) was a Macedonian general.
Memnon was born in 334 BC. Was entrusted by Alexander the Great with the governorship ( strategos ) in Thrace , as successor to Alexander the Lynkesten . In 331 BC He dared a revolt against the regent Antipater , to which he had to submit again after Antipater had advanced with a superior army in Thrace. Memnon was initially left in his office by Antipater, presumably because he had to turn his full attention to the simultaneous uprising of the Spartians . But as early as 327/326 BC He was ordered to India on the Hydaspes , where he added 5,000 Thracian horsemen and 25,000 weapons, which were gilded and silvered by Harpalus , to the army of Alexander the Great .
His successor in office in Thrace was Zopyrion .
