Menekşe Toprak, is a Turkish author, literary translator and cultural journalist.

Life

Toprak came to Germany with her parents when she was a child. Later she studied in Ankara.

She was active as a journalist in the field of German literary criticism in the Turkish-language programs on Radio Multikulti . Toprak writes short stories and novels. Her short story Valizdeki Mektup was published in 2007, Hangi Dildedir Ask in 2009 and her debut novel Temmuz Çocukları in 2011. Her award-winning novel Ağıtın Sonu (İletişim Yayınları) was published in 2014 and her most recent novel was Arı Fısıltıları (2018).

She also worked in the field of literary translation. From 1999, she has published works by Arseni Tarkovski , Zafer Şenocak and Akif Pirinçci, translated into Turkish. She opened up Turkish stories of the 20th century (2008) for an anthology by the Suhrkamp Verlag and the cultural magazine freitextmagazin, the story of the letter in a suitcase , translated by Koray Yilmaz Günay for the German-speaking world .

Awards

For her novel Ağıtın Sonu , Toprak received the Duygu Asena Novel Prize 2015 and the Ankara University Novel Prize 2019 for the most recently published novel Arı Fısıltıları .
