Zafer Şenocak
Zafer Şenocak (born May 25, 1961 in Ankara , Turkey ) is a writer of Turkish origin living in Germany.
Life
Zafer Şenocak was born in Turkey and is the son of a publicist and a teacher. He spent his first years in Ankara and Istanbul . In 1970 the family moved to Munich . There he attended a grammar school and passed his matriculation examination in 1981 . Then studied it German , political science and philosophy in Munich. He has lived in Berlin since 1989 , interrupted by frequent stays abroad as writer in residence at universities and the like. a. in France , Canada and the United States .
As early as the late 1970s, Şenocak went public with reading evenings with his own poems in German. In the 1980s he began to translate Turkish authors into German, but also published his own volumes of poetry, often with poems such as Doppelmann (1985) that themed “Life in Two Worlds” . From 1988 he was co-editor of the multilingual literary magazine "Sirene" and made important theoretical contributions to German-Turkish literature in the 1990s. The works of the Berlin tetralogy are among his most famous prose publications. In addition to his narrative, which focuses on the Orient - Occident , Şenocak also publishes essays on intercultural issues in the taz and the world with provocative headlines such as "Terror comes from the heart of Islam". The multiple award-winning author was also at times the moderator of a talk show at Sender Freie Berlin .
Şenocak received a. a. In 1984 a literary scholarship from the city of Munich and in 1988 a residency scholarship from the Berlin Senate and the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize . His poems have been translated into English and Czech. Fictional prose, novels and essays by the author have appeared in Turkey, the USA, France, Spain and Italy.
The composer Friedemann Schmidt-Mechau used Şenocak's poem also on the fence for the concert cycle From the black earth of this world (1992) consisting of 17 pieces of music for 2 recorders, chitarrone, viola da gamba and harpsichord and 16 texts about exile.
