Claude-François Ménestrier (born March 9, 1631 in Lyon , † January 21, 1705 in Paris ) was a French Jesuit , theologian , philosopher and heraldist .

Menestrier entered the Jesuit order in 1646 . At the age of fifteen he taught ancient languages ​​and rhetoric in Chambéry , Grenoble , Lyon and Paris . When the city of Lyon commissioned him in 1658 to organize the festivities for the king's visit, they were so splendid that from then on he had to organize the royal visits throughout the country. 1669-1670 took him to Germany and Italy, then he settled in Paris. From here he made countless trips to preach in France. He wrote a total of 83 works on various topics and was one of the most brilliant minds in the kingdom in the 17th century.
