Mennonite settlement on the tract

The Mennonite settlement Am Trakt is a group of former German settlements on the Volga in Russia (today 's Saratov Oblast ).

The settlement Am Trakt was founded in 1854 by Plautdietschen Mennonites from Novousensk and was located between the Tarlyk (Russian Тарлык) and Nachoi (Russian Нахой) rivers, about 60 km southeast of the town of Engels .

After the beginning of the Second World War , the German population of the settlements on Am Trakt was deported by rail to the east - mainly Kazakhstan - within a few weeks in accordance with the decree of the Supreme Soviet of August 28, 1941 .

After the war, this region was partly used as a military training area. Some villages in the southeast still exist under Russian names.
