People against mines

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

People against mines is an organization that is supported by doctors member Farin Urlaub , among others . The foundation was established on January 16, 1996 in Germany . The aim of founding the association was to create an organization for humanitarian mine clearance. MgM acts as a service provider for non-governmental organizations to support them in setting up infrastructures in post-war scenarios .

It is also noteworthy that the MgM Foundation takes the position that other mine clearance organizations can easily adopt the technical concepts of their mine detection devices and that patents and copyrights are waived in this regard.

Projects

The organization is currently active in Africa (in former civil war areas) to defuse mine belts in Angola , Mozambique and Namibia . Armored vehicles such as the Wer'wolf MkII and special machines are used, but mine hunting “by hand” with metal detectors and sniffer dogs and rats is still essential.

In addition to defusing explosive devices, they also conduct educational work in the form of discussions with villagers in order to ensure passive prevention of mine accidents.
