Meral Kureyshi (born March 26, 1983  in  Prizren ) is a  Swiss  writer .

Life

Meral Kureyshi was born in 1983 in Prizren in the former Yugoslavia . Her family belonged to the Turkish-speaking minority in Kosovo . She has lived in Bern since 1992 . She studied in Biel at the Swiss Literature Institute .

In 2015 her debut novel Elefanten im Garten was published by Limmat Verlag , with which she made it onto the shortlist of the Swiss Book Prize and for which she received the Canton of Bern Literature Prize in 2016. In 2020, Kureyshi read at the 44th Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt at the invitation of Martin Wiederstein .
