The Mercator Group ( Poslovni sistem Mercator, dd ) is one of the largest retail chains in Southeast Europe with its headquarters in Ljubljana , Slovenia . It mainly operates large hypermarkets , is the leading retail chain in Slovenia and has branches in Serbia , Croatia , Bosnia-Herzegovina , Montenegro and Albania . Since June 2014 it has been a subsidiary of the Croatian Agrokor group.

Lex Mercator

In 2017, the Državni Zbor passed a law that is intended to protect subsidiaries of insolvent companies from life-threatening outflows to the parent company. The law was discussed in public as Lex Mercator , as it is tailored to this company, whose parent company Agrokor is being restructured under state supervision. Mercator is considered to be systemically relevant in Slovenia , as numerous suppliers depend on the company.
