The M 155 is a V8 gasoline engine from Mercedes-AMG . The supercharged unit was used in the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from 2003 to 2010 .

technology

The M 155 is geometrically based on the M 113 E 55 ML , but has been redesigned due to its increased power compared to the original engine. Like this one, it has three valves per cylinder . The supercharger (which incidentally manages up to 23,000 revolutions per minute) is located between the two cylinder banks of the V-engine. Charge air cooling is also on board. Despite the enormous power, the weight of the motor is 230 kg.

Characteristics

  • Cylinder arrangement / number: V8
  • Valves / cylinders : 3
  • Displacement (cm 3 ): 5439
  • Bore × stroke: 97 × 92 mm

In the standard variant of the "normal" SLR, the engine develops 460 kW / 626 hp at 6500 rpm. The torque here is 780 Nm and is available from 3250 to 5000 rpm.

In the SLR 722 presented in 2006 , the rated output has been increased by 18 kW and the maximum torque by 40 Nm. The SLR 722 GT offers even more: with a rated output of 500 kW (680 hp) and a maximum torque of 830 Nm, it currently represents the top performance of the M 155.
