The Mercury Bluff is a vertical cliff on the north coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises to the southwest of Cape Shirreff and Scarborough Castle .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the sealer Mercury under Captain Robert Wetherell from London , who operated off the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1821 and anchored in the neighboring Shirreff Cove .
