Business activities

As of 2020, the company operates nine hydropower plants on the Waikato River , five geothermal power plants in the Waikato region and, as an energy supply company, supplies around 395,000 customers with electricity. Via its subsidiary Metrix , the company offers the electricity retail trade advanced solutions for metering infrastructure.

history

The company was founded as Waikato Soe Limited on December 16, 1998 and initially renamed Mighty River Power Limited on March 15, 1999 . On July 29, 2016, the last name was changed to Mercury NZ Limited . The aim of the last renaming was to unite and market the brands Mighty River Power and Mercury Energy under one name.

Shareholder

The company, although only 51.15% owned by the New Zealand state, is run as a state-owned enterprise by The Treasury , the New Zealand Ministry of Finance. Further ownership shares are shared by various banks, pension funds and a 2.69% stake in Mercury NZ Limited itself.

The company has been listed on the NZX Equity Market (NZSX) of the New Zealand Exchange since May 10, 2013 .
